3.  Depression Connection for Recovery - Fort Worth, TX


The Depression Connection for Recovery (a non-profit) was created in 2000. It began with the mental health diagnosis of Bipolar for retired Methodist Minister Tony Campbell. As Tony began his journey towards recovery with his diagnosis, he found there were no depression support groups in Tarrant County. Tony began to find so many others who were also struggling with depression and anxiety that could use group support to Aid in their Recovery and Wellness. With colleagues, and friends and other health professionals, he put together a team to lead support groups in Fort Worth and Tarrant County. This team today consists of the Executive Director, Administrative staff, Recovery Support Leaders, and a Board of Directors.


Mission


Our mission is to build supportive communities for those facing mental health challenges through peer-led support groups and educational outreach in Tarrant County.


Locations


We now have support groups in Fort Worth, Bedford, Grapevine, Watauga, and Arlington.

4.  Mental Health America of Abilene (MHAA) - Abilene, TX


Our purpose is to improve the lives of people with mental health concerns using peer support, advocacy, educational forums, and outreach. We offer a variety of peer-led weekly support groups, community resources and referrals to psychiatrists and agencies in the surrounding area. MHAA also offers peer to peer support on an individual and appointment basis. All free of charge.

Just as you are unique we are a unique organization


What makes MHPS of Greater Fort Worth so unique? We are:

  • Created by persons living with depression, anxiety, bipolar and other mood disorders...a Peer.
  • Created for persons who are living with depression, anxiety, bipolar and other mood disorders...a Peer.
  • Created as a Consumer Operated Peer Service Program/Provider. We are a Peer Run organization which means that we are administratively controlled, governed, and operated 100 % by mental health consumers....Peers.


Services provided include:


  • Weekly Peer Support Groups
  • Peer Mentoring and Wellness Plans
  • Outreach: Face to Face, by Telephone, Social Media, Zoom and Teleconferencing, and Wellness checks
  • Assistance to peers seeking and obtaining employment
  • Assistance to peers for basic needs such as housing, household items, food, clothing, gas, transportation
  • Training for Peers to become Certified Peer Specialists
  • Community Outreach and Engagement to promote our services to all persons in the Greater Fort Worth area.

8.  The Agape Center - Amarillo, TX


The Agape Center, formerly, Amarillo Area Mental Health Consumers (AAMHC) was formed in 1996 by a group of peers, with mental health diagnoses, interested in learning more about empowerment and advocacy. In the year 2002, we became a satellite organization providing peer support services under the auspices of Texas Mental Health Consumers, a non-profit organization out of Austin, Texas. As the organization evolved, we became an independent peer support recovery center funded by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission.


Mission


The primary mission of The Agape Center is to organize, encourage, educate, and train people with mental illness to advocate for themselves and support each other in their recovery. The organization's purpose is to encourage and train mental health consumers to be productive, functional, valued citizens within their community.
